Özet
Bu makalede, İzmir’in 15 Mayıs 1919 tarihinde Yunanlar tarafından işgalini takip eden günlerde Fransa basınında çıkan İzmir’in işgal haberleri ve işgalin nasıl yorumlandığı değerlendirilmektedir. Paris Barış Konferansı’nda alınan işgal kararının Fransız basınında ele alınma şekli ve yorumlanması o dönem kamuoyunun Türkiye’nin geleceği hakkındaki görüşlerinin bilinmesi açısından son derece önemlidir. İzmir’in Yunanlar tarafından işgali, yaklaşık olarak üç yıl dört ay boyunca sürmüştür. Ancak tüm bu sürecin değerlendirilmesi ve yaşanan gelişmelerin basındaki yansımalarının verilmesi daha hacimli bir çalışmanın konusudur. Dolayısıyla makalede işgali takip eden günlerde çıkan haber ve yorumlara yer verilmektedir
Abstract
This article evaluates the news and interpretations concerning the Greek occupation of İzmir on 15 May 1919 appearing in the French press during the days following the occupation. The manner how the French press interpreted the decision of occupation which was taken at the Paris Peace Conference is very important in terms of understanding the Western public opinion of the time regarding the future of Turkey. The occupation of İzmir by the Greeks lasted about three years and four months. However, the evaluation of the whole process and discussions on the reflections of the developments on the press might be a subject matter of a more comprehensive study. Therefore, the article includes news and commentaries which were published during the days following the occupation.
