YILDIZ SARAYI ŞEHZADE KÖŞKLERİ BAHÇESİ’NİN ÖZELLİKLERİ VE KORUNMUŞLUK DURUMU

FEATURES AND STATE OF PRESERVATION OF THE GARDEN OF ŞEHZADE RESIDENCES AT YILDIZ PALACE

Özet

Şehzade Köşkleri Bahçesi, Yıldız Sarayı'nın kuzeybatı bölümünde bulunan Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi Yıldız (Beşiktaş) Yerleşkesi sınırları içinde yer almaktadır. Büyük ölçüde arazinin eğimli yapısına uygun olarak biçimlendirilmiş bu bahçede ağaç dalı formu verilmiş korkuluklar, kaskadlı grotto süslemeler, farklı tipte bordürlerle bezenmiş zemin kaplamaları, çeşme ve havuzlar, merdiven ve kameriyeler, ağaç dalı şeklinde tasarlanmış bir demir yaya köprüsü gibi özgün öğeler bulunmaktadır. Cumhuriyet döneminde çevresindeki binalara verilen yeni işlevler ile ortaya çıkan ihtiyaçlar sebebiyle değişikliklere uğrayan bahçenin yerleşke içinde bulunması, Osmanlı dönemindeki son biçiminin belli ölçüde korunmasını sağlarken, çevresel koşulların yıprattığı özgün mimari öğelerdeki bozulmayı bazı bölgelerde yoğun kullanıma bağlı olarak arttırmıştır. İstanbul'da 19. yüzyılda etkin olan İngiliz bahçe tasarımının etkilerinin görüldüğü Yıldız Sarayı bahçelerinin bir parçası olan Şehzade Köşkleri Bahçesi ve korunmuşluk durumunun irdelendiği bu çalışmanın ilk bölümünde Yıldız Sarayı bahçeleri ele alınmıştır. Ana kısmı oluşturan ikinci bölümde Şehzade Köşkleri Bahçesi'nin tasarım özellikleri ve koruma sorunlarını içeren günümüz durumu incelenmiş, son bölümde ise çalışma genel bir değerlendirme ve öneriler ile sonuçlandırılmıştır.

Abstract

The Garden of Şehzade Residences is located in Yıldız Technical University Yıldız(Beşiktaş) Campus situated at the northwestern part of Yıldız Palace. The garden wasdesigned according to the slope of the site, and has authentic elements such as tree branchshapedparapets, grotto ornaments with cascades, pavements adorned with variousbordures, fountains and pools, stairs and pergolas, and a footbridge designed like treebranches. Despite the requirements related to new functions of the buildings surroundingthe garden have resulted in modifications in the republican period, the latest form of thegarden in Ottoman period is rather preserved as it is being located in the campus; however,the degree of deterioration in authentic architectural elements exposed to environmentalfactors has increased locally in areas of concentrated use.The Garden of Şehzade Residences and its state of preservation are examined in thispaper composed of three sections. Yıldız Palace gardens, which were influenced by Englishgarden design seen in İstanbul in the 19th century, and which the Garden of ŞehzadeResidences belongs to, were examined in the first section. Design features of the Garden ofŞehzade Residences and its present state including its preservation problems are discussedin the second section, which is the main part of the study. The paper is concluded with ageneral evaluation of the whole study and with suggestions in the third section.
