Abstract

Patients with Down's syndrome have an increased prevalence of autoimmune disorders affecting both endocrine and non-endocrine organs. The most common autoimmune disease in Down's syndrome is related to the thyroid gland. Thyroid autoantibodies are found in 13-34 % of patients with Down's syndrome, both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are more common in patients with Down's syndrome than in the general population. The reported prevalence of hypothyroidism in patients with Down's syndrome has varied between 3 % and 54 %. But, the association of Down's syndrome with hyperthyroidism is not common. Here we present's patient, with Down's syndrome who developed hyperthyroidism and the relevant literature was reviewed.
