Propertius I.19 : Ölüm-Aşk-Sadakat

Özet

Roma'da, Augustus döneminin önde gelen elegia şairlerinden biri olan Propertius bütün yaşamını Cynthia adını verdiği sevgilisini delicesine sevmeye adar. Şiirlerinde çoğunlukla Cynthia'ya karşı duyduğu sonsuz aşkı ve Cynthia'nın sadakatsizliklerinden dolayı çektiği ıstırapları anlatır. Ancak asla onu sevmekten vazgeçmez ve bu aşkın kölesi olmayı tercih eder. Türkçe'ye çevirdiğimiz şiiri 1.19 Monobiblos olarak adlandırılan birinci kitabına aittir. Bu şiirinde şair ölüm, aşk ve sadakat üzerine kendi duygularını son derece etkileyici bir biçimde dile getirir.

Abstract

Propertius who is one of the most eminent elegist during the Augustan period in Rome, devotes all his life to loving his mistress whom he called Cynthia. In his poems, he mostly tells his everlasting love towards Cynthia and the pains he suffered because of her unfaithfullness. But he never gives up loving her and prefers to be a slave of this love. The poem 1.19 which we translated into Turkish, belongs to his first book, named Monobiblos. In this poem, the poet utters his feelings about death, love and fidelity in an extremely impressive way.
