Atinalı Sofist Herodes Atticus'un Asia eyaleti Corrector'luğu

Özet

İkinci Sofistik Akım'ın en önemli temsilcilerinden birisi olan Herodes Atticus M.S. 134-135 yıllarında Hadrianus tarafından Asia eyaletindeki tüm özgür kentlere corrector olarak atanmıştır. Bu sırada Asia eyaleti geleceğin Roma imparatoru Antoninus Pius tarafından yönetilmektedir. Atticus Asia eyaletine atanan ilk corrector'dur. Söz konusu atama Hadrianus'un eyalet politikasını yansıtması açısından son derece önemlidir. Hadrianus döneminde ikisi Achaea, biri Pontus-Bithynia biri de Asia'ya atanan Herodes Atticus olmak üzere toplam dört corrector atanmıştır. Corrector'lar doğudaki eyalet kentlerinde ortaya çıkan iç problemlerin daha ziyade sosyal ve siyasal problemlerin çözümü için imparator tarafından atanıyorlardı. Mali problemlerin çözümüne yardımcı olmaları amacıyla ise, kentlere curator civitatis adı verilen daha alt düzeyde memurlar atanıyordu.

Abstract

Herodes Atticus, one oj the representatives of the Second Sophistic, was appointed by Hadrian as a corrector of the free cities of Asia for AD 134-135 when the future emperor Antoninus Pius was the governor of Asia. Atticus was the first corrector of free cities of Asia.This appointment is important with regard to Hadrian's provincial policy. In his regime, he appointed two correctors for Achaea, one for Pontus-Bithynia and one for Asia. A corrector was an extraordinal official, appointed by the emperor to solve internal problems, expecially social and political, in the eastern provincial cities. As for financal problems, a curator civitatis was appointed to individual cities.
