Abstract
In this article, what the concept of freedom means together with ethico-politics in the process of transition from mytho-poetic to ethico-politic is studied and the answers to the questions on freedom in the history of philosophy are investigated. Therefore, Ionia, namely the birth place of philosophical thinking, is principally taken as the beginning point of the research. The efforts of humans to interpret the cosmos, basing on the experiment and observation with logic after the disengagement with mythological thinking, is considered an important phase as the first impact of free thought and this process is explained in the guidance of the ancient philosophers. What the existence of definite, right and universal knowledge means in terms of freedom question in ancient philosophy, in which the mind was considered equal to self-control and individual activities of people were at the forefront, is discussed.
