Özet
Aphrodisias'taki ilk yerleşim Son Neolitik Çağ'a tarihlenir.
Abstract
The first settlement in Aphrodisias dates back to Late Neolithic Age. Since this period a significant cult of Mother Goddess is known in the city which was replaced by the cult of Aphrodite beginning from the Hellenistic Period. The religion of Aphrodite followed by Hellenistic and Roman period population of Aphrodisias was actually a continuation of the old belief of Mother Goddess which manifests itself both in the special form of Aphrodite’s status and the different architectural planning of the Aphrodite’s Temple at the city.Aphrodisias –reaching a new level of urban development– a was built using grid plan in 1st century B.C., however the orientation of the marble Aphrodite Temple, which was founded during the same period, differs from the city’s grid plan. The main reason for this difference is the magnificent montain Babadağ (ancient Salbakos) the east of the city. By the main facade of the temple looks to this mountain which is sacred for the Mother Goddess belief
