Abstract

In this study, the distribution of the monolithic columns produced in the ancient granite quarries in the Troad Region was analyzed by archaeometric methods in Western Anatolia coasts. Within this framework, Geologic samples were taken from the Akçakeçili and Koçali quarries located in the Troad with the Kozak quarry located in the Mysia. In addition, archaeological samples were taken from fragmentary granite columns in the Sanctuary of Apollon Smintheus, Serapeion in Pergamon, Smyrna Agora, Tlos and Side. The collected samples were examined by thin section, qualitative mineralogical - petrographic and geochemical analysis methods. The results of this analyses demonstrate that the granite columns from Smintheion 1, Smintheion 2, Agora of Smyrna 2, Tlos Stadium and Side Theater could have been originated in the Troadic quarries, while certain samples from Agora of Smyrna 2, Pergamon/Red Hall and Tlos Theater could have originated in the Kozak quarry.
