Özet
Antik Roma din ve mitolojisinde Ianus (Janus) başlangıcın, geçişin, zamanın, kapının ve kapının tan-rısıdır. O geçmişe ve geleceğe bakar biçimde iki yüzlü betimlenir. Ianus’a hasat başlangıcında, ekim dikim aylarında, evlilik, savaş zamanında, taç giyme zamanlarında, ölüm, doğumda, benzeri biçimde birçok olay öncesinde tapınılır.

Ianus was worshipped at the beginnings of the harcest, and planting times, marriages, wars, coronation, deaths and births pretty much before every activity of Roman life. His two faces were stamped on Roman coins. Ianus was represented by a double-faced head, and he was represented in the portrait of art either with or without a beard. But, it is known that Ianus was one of the earliest of the Roman deities. The worship of Ianus dated back to the earliest years of the city of Rome. In the temple of Ianus, in Rome the doors were thrown open in times of war and closed in times of peace.
