Abstract
The science of archaeology is one of the disciplines that efficiently use technological applications in the field of archaeological excavation and surface survey. In the excavation projects, taking into consideration of architectural and material culture in the digital study methods pave the way for the constitution of archives as well as the preparation of the virtual reality environment. In the Digital Çine-Tepecik Project conducted by the Çine-Tepecik Excavation Directorate and Computer Engineering Department, Mycenaean pottery decorated with paintings in the Late Bronze Age settlement is studied. In this study, a database in the digital environment has been founded by detailly defining the patterns and figures embroidered to the vessels to the computer. By using the photographic data of patterns on the ceramics, it was aimed to teach each pattern to the artificial intelligence system. Mycenaean pottery findings belonging to the Çine-Tepecik Excavation Site are provided for investigation with digital methods. Among all patterns, four main groups were determined as the highest number of the photographic data, which are band, wavy line, semicircle, and spiral patterns. The photographs belonging to these patterns have been divided into two groups: an educational group and testing group. The data in the educational group was used to teach the computer while the data in the testing group was used to ask the computer in order to control the competence on accurate forecasting of the computer. Among these patterns, band pattern is the most distinguishable and the most frequent one. This is why the accurate forecast of the computer is high. Although the spiral pattern is the group with a limited number, it was successful to teach the computer and get the accurate forecast from the computer since it has a characteristic structure. Wavy line and semicircle patterns have many variations among themselves. In order to teach each variation to the computer, innumerous photographic data should be used. In line with this study, in which the first results were evaluated, wavy line and semicircle patterns are ones that the accurate forecast of the computer is the least
