Özet

Hermes, Hellen panteonunun büyük tanrılarındandır. Ancak bu tanrı bir anda ortaya çıkmamıştır. Derin bir geçmişi ve bağlantıları vardır. Mezopotamya tanrısı Ningišzida, Hermes’in bir öncülü sayılabilir.

Abstract

Hermes is one of the great gods of the Greek Pantheon. But this god did not appear suddenly. He has a deep history and connections. The Mesopotamian god Ningišzida can be considered a predecessor of Hermes. However, the main source point for Hermes should be Anatolia. Therefore, Kurunta (Runta), Šarruma and Arma have been suggested for the origin of Hermes. In addition, the Luwian Moon God Arma can be the main source of Hermes (Turms). The Bronze Age in the Cyclades, Greece and Crete was initiated buy the immigrants from Western Anatolia. At this time and to these places, Arma belief was probably brought by the Luwians. The worship of the Arma, may have passed to the Mycenaeans (Achaeans) and than to the Dorians. Finally, it is possible that he turned into Hermes in the Greek pantheon through the Dorians. But the belief in Hermes continued to changed. In the Early Hellenistic period and under the rule of the Ptolemies, it was combined with the Ancient Egyptian God Thoth. This god, named Hermes – Thoth was especially worshipped in the Ptolemaic lands. In the Roman Period he was also worshipped as Mercury – Thoth.
