Abstract
Purpose: Population data on genetic markers is necessary for statistical evaluation of forensic evidence. The analysis of genetic markers is much more important in paternity probability calculations and the data of a particular genetic marker of population in which the crime occured must be known. So, in this study, Erythrocyte Esterase D (EsD) and Acid Phosphatase (EAP or ACP) polymorphisms and allele frequencies of Ege population are determined. Methods: EsD and EAP polymorphisms of Ege population are determined using Grunbaum's cellulose acetate membrane electrophoresis method and allele frequencies and average probability of exclusion of each system are estimated according to the Selvin's report. Results: The numbers of phenotypes for EsD enzyme system were EsD 1-1: 225, EsD 2-1: 86 and EsD 2-2: 9, for EAP enzyme system were EAP AA: 39, EAP BA: 134, EAP BB: 127, EAP CB: 14 and EAP CA: 6, in 320 unlelated individuals. According to these results, estimated allele frequencies for EsD*1: 0.837+0.036, EsD*2: 0.163+0.016 ($x ^2$: 0.051, df: 1, p: 0.83); for EAP*A: 0.341+0.023, EAP*B: 0.628+0.031, EAP*C: 0.031+0.007 ($x^2$: 0.509, df: 3, p: 0.92). Conclusion: Observed and expected values were generally in good agreement with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for each enzyme system. The average probability of exclusion was calculated as 11.7% for EsD enzyme system and 21.3% for EAP enzyme system. These results were compared with published reports.
