Whipple's disease: Histopathologic and electron microscopic features (A case report)

Abstract

Whipple's disease is a rare disorder caused by Tropheryma Whippleii. A 45-year-old man presented with weight loss, diarrhea. Histopathologic and electron microscopic examinations were performed. The diagnosis is established by demonstrating the presence of PAS-positive macrophages in the mucosa and by electron microscopic examination. Whipple's disease must be kept in mind in differential diagnosis of small intestinal biopsies.
