Abstract

Lipodystrophies characterized by diminution or absence of subcutaneaus fat tissue are classified into three groups; localized, partial and generalized. A 47year-old woman was admitted to our department with complaints of wasting on the left side of her face, neck and armpit. The patient was diagnosed as Barraquer-Simon's Syndrome, a subgroup of lipodystrophies with regard to history, physical examination and radiodiagnostic data. Immunological investigations were normal except for a diminished level of complement 3. Absence of lipoid tissue on face, neck and armpit was typical.
