Abstract

The Result of Rubella Screening in Tvvo Primary (6., 7., and 8th classes) And Tvvo High Schools in Ankara Abidinpaşa Group Directorate for Health Aim: The purpose of this study was to determine the age-specific rubella seroprevalence and associated factors with rubella seropositivity in unvaccinated adolescence. Methods: in this cross-sectional study, 2 primary (6.,7. and 8th classes) and 2 high schools were selected amongst the 95 primary and 19 high schools in the Ankara Abidinpaşa Group Directorate for Health. After sample size calculation, 240 students were selected with stratified sampling methods according to the classes and sex. Participation rate of study was 95.4% (229 students} because of illness report, absenteeism and inadequate blood sample for laboratory examinations. Rubella specific IgG antibodies screened with ELISA Method. Chi-square, Fisher's exact chi-square test, ANOVA and logistic regression analysis were used in statistical evaluation. Result: Rubella seropositivity prevalence was found to be 92.6% in 229 students ages between 10 and 17 years. There was no significant association between sex, (parent's education-job, income, type of house, number of persons per rooms, total brother/sister number, number of household member, history of going to kindergarten before starting primary school, number of children who went to kindergarten ör primary school with rubella (p>0.05). There was a significant association behveen age and exanthemic disease history with rubella seropositivity Conclusion: Under these circumstances there might be conduct national wide epidemiologic survey. When 7.4% susceptible (seronegative) group laken into consideration to prevent rubella and congenital rubella syndrome, it is understood that rubella vaccine should be added to vaccine schedule combine strategy in Turkey.
