Abstract
Dev-Genç was the last stop that a significant part of the socialist university students, who started to organize in the mid-1960s, arrived with the March 12 Memorandum. Dev-Genç which adopted the national democratic revolution (MDD) strategy, turned from a "student organization" to a "youth organization" open to non-students. However, due to the fact that the MDD movement was not partisan, it operated almost like a political party. Dev-Genç's agenda was more about the general problems of the socialist movement than student or youth problems. For this reason, although it mainly concerns the history of the student or youth movements since the majority of its administrative staff and members were university students, it also has an important place in the history of social struggles and socialist movement. Dev-Genç was the product of a period in which the "revolutionary" identity preceded the "student" and "youth" identity. In this article, Dev-Genç's position and roles in the MDD struggle, conflicts and divisions among the executive staff, media organs and its position in relation to the March 12 Memorandum are explained.
