Abstract
In oral and maxillofadal surgery different autogenic, allogenic and alloplastic bone grafts are used for filling of mandibular and facial osteotomy defects, alveolar ridge defects and cleft grafting, in facial bone augmentation, in reconstruction of mandibular continuity and regeneration of bone defects as a consequence of congenital, traumatic, degenerative, inflammatory, infectious, cystic and neoplastic etiologies. Different alloplastic graft materials such as calcium phospate ceramics, polyorthoester or cement may be used. In this experimental study, healing of bone defects filled with biocoral and HTR in dogs were histologicâlly evaluated and compared with the controls. 4 dogs were used in this study and in each dog 2 monocortical bone defects were created on the right site of the mandible and one defect was created on the left site. On the right site Biocoral was placed into one defect and HTR was placed into the other. The left site was used as controls. In this article the histological results obtained in the postoperative 4th week are evaluated and discussed with the literature findings.
