Abstract

Laminate veneers are restorative alternatives to full crowns, in presence of discolored or malformed anterior teeth and especially when the teeth of young patients having oversized pulp are to be treated. Due to recent advences in the materials and techniques used, laminate veneers have gained popularity. However it is essential to consider the longevity of these restorations under functional forces in the mouth. In this study, the stress distribution of the porcelain and composite laminates applied to central incisors, are evaluated under functional loads. As a result, regardless of the materials used, significant decreases in the shear, tensile and compressive stress values are observed in the laminated samples when compared with natural teeth. When the test materials are considered, porcelain samples showed better result to reduce the shear and tensile stresses, while composite are better to reduce compressive stresses.
