Abstract

The use of dental implants in dentistry gives better treatment options both to the clinician and patient. However, their use are not entirely problem free and one of the most common complications is the observed fracture of screws that connect the prosthesis to the implants. Lack of optimum torque is held responsible for the occurrence of this situation by many studies. In order to achieve the necessary optimum torque levels, various devices are marketed by different manufacturers. This study does not only give a brief description about the importance of achieving optimum torque & the effectiveness of using two commercially available tightening devices but the importance of a passive superstructure fit as well. Various methods such as using a washer in an attempt to increase the 'quality of superstructure fit' is also discussed based on the test method that use strain-gauge techniques in vivo.
