Abstract

Restorative materials are possessed exzothermic reaction during polymerization or setting, the visible light cure lambs also cause a temperature increase. The purpose of this study was to measure the temperature increase induced within the pulp chamber during the polymerization or setting of various restorative materials. 48 extracted human noncarious anterior maxillary teeth were used. The teeth were separated into the 6 groups. Standardized Class V cavities on the vestibuler surfaces of teeth were prepared and then the root of all teeth were severed. Pulpal tissues were removed and thermocouples were inserted into the pulp chambers. After initial temperatures were recorded with a digital thermometer (Eprom Ltd. Ankara TURKEY), the teeth in the each group were restored with restorative materials (F 2000, Compoglass F, Charisma F, Vitremer, Dyract AP, Ketacfil) according to the manufacturer's instructions. The maximum temperature rises during polymerization or setting of these restorative materials were also recorded, separately. The data were evaluated statistically by Analysis of Variance and Duncan test. Results of this study indicated that the lowest heat increase was found at Ketacfil and the hybrid materials, except of Vitremer, demonstrated greater temperature rises than composite resin. (p< 0.01)
