Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the microleakage with both dye penetration and SEM observations at the gingival margins of Cl H composite resin restorations with different techniques. Cl II cavities of 1 mm depth were prepared above cementoenamel junction on 40 freshly extracted non-carious human molars. The specimens were randomly divided into 4 groups and restored with the techniques below: Group 1 (control): Light-cured composite resin with incremental technique (Valux Plus), Group 2: Auto-cured composite resin (Master-Dent) at the gingival floor and above light-cured composite resin (Valux Plus), Group 3: Glass-Ionomer cement (lonofil Molar) at the gingival floor and above light-cured composite resin (Valux Plus), Group 4: Flowable composite resin( Tetric Flow) at the gingival floor and above light-cured composite resin (Valux Plus). The specimens were stored in distilled water for 24 hours at 37°C after restorations, thennocycled 100 times for l min. at 5/55°C. The apices were sealed with sealing wax. The specimens were isolated with 2 coats of nail polish with the exception of 1mm around the tooth-restoration interface and placed in 0,5% basic fuchtion for 24 hours. The teeth were embedded to self-curing acrylic resin and sectioned mesio-distal direction. The dye penetrations at the gingival margins were evaluated with stereo microscopy photographing. As a result, there was no statistically significant difference between the gingival margins of the groups (p>0.01) and the specimens were coated with 200 A° of gold and the tooth restoration interface at the gingival floor observed with SEM. Considering the data of these 4 different tecnique. The SEM results were found to be parallel to dye penetration results and no marginal gap was observed.
