Abstract

Objectives: In our research, we considered the subject of on‐site training of family medicine and a unique model called ‘’training family health centers’’ from the aspect of residents. We tried to shed light on the future perspective on site‐training by examining the expectations, information, and opinions of family medicine residents. Materials and Methods: After taking the ethical approval, the research was done with the family medicine residents taking full time career training. The participants filled out a questionnaire and the research is based on voluntariness. In the analysis of queries involving numerical data, average and standard deviation, frequency and ratio values were used, and chi‐square test was used in the analysis of qualitative data. Data obtained from open‐ended questions were evaluated by being categorized. Results: Our work was conducted with 200 participants having family medicine resident training in 36 different hospitals. The participants were in the age range of 24‐27 and the average age was 28,6+2.9. It has been seen that 87.50% (n=175) of the participants joining were pleased to be a family medicine resident. 81% of the participants indicated that the period of education was enough. The ratio of the participants who have enough information about a training family health center has been determined as 36%(n=73). The percentage of the ones who said “I want to be a part of on‐site training after the specialization’’ was 76.50% (n=153). Of the participants 89,50% had a family physician clinic head. The percentage of the participants who spent their on‐site training in ‘’training family health centers’’ was found as 36%. The percentage of the participants who think that ’’on‐site training education’’ should be given in ‘’training family health centers’’ and hospital clinics is 36%. Conclusion: In our research, it was determined that family medicine residents mostly thought that onsite training should be given at training family health centers, but that the training at family medicine outpatient clinics located in hospitals should continue. It was accepted by the majority that the duration of the recidency should last for three years. Residents were willing to become a part of on‐site training after they had completed standard training.
