Abstract

AIM: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the principles regarding the implementation of medical education have also undergone a mandatory change in order to reduce the spread of the virüs and provide social isolation. In this study, it is aimed to present the perspectives of Ufuk University Faculty of Medicine students on education and service provision of the process that has been implemented in the COVID-19 pandemic. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The study was carried out with 235 students who continued their education on the online platform during the pandemic process and accessed the questionnaire sent online. General demographic information, online education platform usage and access information, access to and usage information of learning materials, information on participation in online courses, the effects and efficiency of online education on learning processes, and finally, their views on the place of online education in the presence of face-to-face training were evaluated. The data were obtained using a 5-point Likert scale and the frequency analysis required for descriptive data presentation was evaluated in the IBM SPSS 20.0.0 package program. RESULTS: It was determined that only 37.4% of the students participating in the study found online education efficient. Students reported that they had difficulty in being motivated to the lessons (61.2%), but they adapted easily (51.1%), they found the lessons interesting (29.3%), and it was advantageous to see the lecturer (50.7%). However, they reported that visual presentations in online education were superior to face-to-face education (34.9%), online education was independent of space and time (79.8%), and online education should be a part of face-to-face education (52.4%). CONCLUSION: Evaluating online education, which is rapidly structured during the pandemic process, from the student's perspective and considering its reflections on the process, can be a sustainable solution to some changes regarding the future of online education and medical education.
