Abstract
Selim Ileri is one of the productive names of short storytelling and novelism in the Republican Period. Apart from these genres, he also provided works in the genres of essay, analysis, memoir, theater, script, and poetry. In the article, the main trends dominating all these works are emphasized, after a general evaluation of all the works of the author. From his very first short stories, the feeling of sadness prevails in the background of Selim Ileri's works. This feeling had often been the motivation of what he wrote. At the same time, it can be said that the author had a critical approach towards the changing world and the Turkish society and tried to build "the past remembered with beautiful feelings" as in the works of Abdulhak Şinasi Hisar. Diversities of the feeling of opposition fed internally against the ongoing change have somehow reflected in the works of the author in many genres. Perhaps, the desire of the author, who is dissatisfied with the time he lived, to find the happiness he looked for in a past period which was free from problems, is a way of making himself happy and peaceful.
