Abstract

Ectodermal Dysplasia (ED) is a hereditary disorder associated with defective ectodermal structures. There are a lot of clinical forms of ED, but the most frequently - reported ED is "Hypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia (HED). HED is a X-linked recessive disorder and males are affected more frequently than females. The main features are hypohidrosis, hypotrichosis, anadontia or hypodontia. Variable degrees of hypophidrosis are present, frequently with significant episodes of hyperthermia in infancy and early childhood. Hypotrichosis occurs with the scalp hair being thin in childhood. Hypodontia affects primary and permanent dentitions and usually occurs the missing of the most of teeth congenitally. Patients afflicted with unacceptable esthetics and abnormal function of orofacial structures. Dental treatment depends on the severity of the disorders; therefore, treatment varies according to the age, growth and development of the stomatognathic system of the patient. Several prosthodontic treatments; such as complete dentures, removable partial dentures, overdentures and implants are available to rehabilitate patients with HED. in this case, a four years old girl patient which has diagnosed with HED clinically, was reported.
