Abstract

There are many literary genres written on different subjects in classical Turkish literature which come up in verse or prosaic forms. Translations of an-nawawi’s forty hadiths that focus on hadiths consisting of words of our Prophet that he said to lead his companions are among the literary genres with religious content. The first examples of forty hadiths, the first examples of which are seen in Arabic and Persian literatures and which are called “prophetic hadiths” and “çihil hadiths”, were written as prose in Turkish literature. However, they have evolved into verse or verse-prosaic forms in time and were much sought after by many poets. As a result of the studies conducted so far, it is found that Muhlisi is one of the poets who wrote about eighty verse examples and there is no information about his life except for his pseudonym. The poet started the Translation of Forty Hadith with an introduction mixed with prose and verse and translated the forty hadiths he chose into Turkish in a plain language and as quatrains of two by two couplets. This study focuses on the form and content features of Muhlisi’s verse forty hadiths translation, and the translated text is included.
