Abstract

The literary works which deal with the occupation of one city or one castle are called "fetih-nâme". Especially as the period of Suleiman the Magnificent refers to a time period when many conquests took place, the number of the "fetih-nâmes" written in this period was quite high. Sigetvâr Journey, which is Suleiman's last journey, led to the appearance of a new literary type called "Sigetvar-nâme". These works aré works that should be examined not only in terms of history, but also in terms of language and literature. Born in the "Vardar" district of Rumelia in the sixteenth century and understood to have got a good education, Âgehî also has a work named "Fetih- nâme-i Kal'a-i Sigetvâr" which deals with his journey to Sigetvar. Âgehî wrote his work in prose and in some parts he also included Turkish and Persian texts written in verse to reinforce the subjects explored in his work. The book in which Suleiman's death and the ascension to the throne of Selim II were narrated as well as Szigetvâr Journey is a significant literary work that reflects the prosaic features, linguistic features and fighting traditions in the sixteenth century.
