Abstract

We can say that the ney polished by nine nodes and seven pitches in conformity with the performance features of Turkish Music has been made by integral polishing in tradition. In the 19th century, adding new pitches to the ancient structure of the ney was discussed. It was aimed to make the performance of the pitches of nim hisar, hisar, and the maqams of hicazkar,kürdilihicazkar, rıihavend, şedaraban, considerably difficult to perform by ney, easy by these proposals. The most known proposal of additional pitch has been offered by Salih Bey (1823-1888). During the same period, another proposal has been offered by Hüsameddin Efendi (alive in 1895) chief clerk of the Suriye Court of Commerce. This proposal offered by Hüsameddin Efendi who has added a pitch of zirgüle to the ney is the main point of our article.
