Opinions of Secondary School Students About Museum Education With Activities: The Sample of Yozgat Museum

Özet

Müzeler toplumların geçmişten günümüze her türlü sanatsal, kültürel, tarihsel yaşamının yansıtıldığı zengin öğrenme ortamlarıdır. Başlangıçta müzelerin kuruluş amaçları, geçmişe ait nesneleri toplamak, korumak, belgelemek ve sergilemekti. Ancak günümüzde bu amaçlar bireylerin eleştirel ve yaratıcı düşünme becerilerinin gelişmesine katkı sağlamak, geçmiş, bugün ve gelecek arasında bağ kurabilmelerine yardımcı olmak, sanata ve tarihe olan duyarlılığı geliştirmek olarak değişmiştir. Bu çalışma, Yozgat Bozok Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilgiler Eğitimi 3. sınıf öğretmen adaylarının Topluma Hizmet Uygulamaları dersinde gerçekleştirdikleri projede yapılan çalışmaları ve ortaokul öğrencilerinin müze eğitimine ilişkin görüşlerini içermektedir. Projenin amacı, öğrencilerin müzedeki etkileşimli etkinliklerle müzelere karşı olumlu tutum geliştirmelerine katkı sağlamaktır. Proje Yozgat Müzesi'nde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Proje uygulamalarına, Fatma Temel Turhan Ortaokulu 6. sınıfta öğrenim görmekte olan 32 öğrenci katılmıştır. Etkinlikler 8 aday öğretmenin rehberliğinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Uygulama sonrasında öğrenci görüşleri yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formları aracılığıyla alınmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre öğrencilerin, aktif olarak katıldıkları müze etkinliklerini eğlenceli, faydalı ve ilgi çekici buldukları belirlenmiştir.

Abstract

Museums are rich learning places in which all kinds of artistic, cultural and historical life of societies are reflected from past to the present. Initially the purpose of establishing museums were to collect, preserve, document and exhibit objects belonging to the past. However, nowadays these aims have changed. They aim to contribute the development of individual’s critical and creative thinking skills, to help them establish a connection between past, present and future, to enhance the sensitivity for art and history. This project includes the project studies which carried out in Community Servise Practice course by Yozgat Bozok University Social Studies Education 3rd grade teacher candidates and the opinions of secondary school students about museum education. The aim of the project is to contribute students to develop positive attitudes towards museums through interactive activities in the museum. The project was carried out in Yozgat Museum. 32 students attending from 6th grade of Fatma Temel Turhan Secondary School participated in the project implementations. Activities were conducted in guidance of 8 candidate teachers. The case study method which is one of the qualitative research methods was used in this study. After the application, the opinions of the students were obtained through semi-structured interview forms. According to the results of the research, it was determined that the students found the museum activities that they actively participated in entertaining, useful and interesting.
