Abstract
The aim of this study was to be detected prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii by Sabin-Feldman Dye Test in dogs in Van province. For this purpose, serum samples were obtained from totally 69 dogs ( 32 males, 37 females), and tested for toxoplasmosis using Sabin-Feldman Dye Test. End of the investigation, anti-Toxoplasma antibodies were detected in 40 (57.9 %) out of the 69 dogs. Fourteen of the owned dogs (40.0%) and 26 of the stray dogs (76.4%) were seropositive for Toxoplasma gondii. Furthermore, the proportion of seropositive stray dogs was higher than that of owned dogs (P<0.05). A positive relation between age and positivity was found as dog aged the proportion positivity also increased (P<0.05). The gender had no effect on the seroprevalance. In conclusion, toxoplasmosis may pose a great health risk for man and animals, therefore preventive measures should be taken.
