Abstract

One of the most important theological sects that continued their activities in the geography of Khorasan from the third century to the sixth century is Karramiyya. For these three centuries, the Karramiyya represented Islam with its lifestyle, mystical attitude, and educational institutions, received support from the people, and dominated Nishapur, one of the important cities of Khorasan. The Karramites were known for their sufistic and mystical views in their first period and gained many followers. The leader of the Karramites, Muhammad ibn Karram (d. 255/869) has been criticized for his creed views in the maqalat (Islamic Heresiographical) tradition. After Ibn Karram, the most important person raised by the Karramiyya sect is Muhammad bin Haytham. The period of Ibn Haytham (d. IV/X.-V/XI.) was the golden age of the Karramites.Because he first gathered the society under the Karramiyya sect, and then tried to respond to the criticisms directed against the Karramites. In this study, after giving information about Ibn Haytham's life and works, his role in the formation of the Haythamiyya sect will be emphasized. In addition, the sect's understanding of divinity; its views on the relationship between God's essence and attributes, the issue of the Divine throne and vision of God (ru'yatallah) will be given.
