Abstract

Abstract: Cistus × florentinus Lam. is a hybrid taxon of Cistus monspeliensis L. (Montpellier cistus) and Cistus salviifolius L. (sage-leaved rock-rose). It is primarily distributed in the coastal areas of Mediterranean countries together with Eastern region of the United States of America and Galapagos islands. Cistus × florentinus Lam. is widely traded as an ornamental plant thanks to its showy flowers, evergreen and dense leaves. A natural distribution of this hybrid species was determined in the roadsides and open spaces of forest around Yalı Mevkii in Bodrum district of Muğla province in Turkey. This record of Cistus × florentinus (“akpamukluk” is proposed as Turkish name) taxon is the first record as a natural hybrid of Cistus L. genus distributed in Turkey. In this article, description and drawing of Cistus × florentinus taxon is presented. In addition, a comparative table with parent species, a distribution map and photos are provided.
