Abstract

In the current study, it was aimed to determine the extent to which the levels of perfectionism, loneliness and self-compassion in adolescents predict their tendency to forgive themselves, others and situations. To this end, the relational survey model was used to determine the relationships between the variables. The study group of the current research was constructed by means of the convenience sampling method because of the pandemic conditions. The online form prepared by the researchers was shared on various social media platforms; thus, a total of 534 adolescents were reached. The mean age of the participants is 15.62. The data in the study were collected by using the demographic information form developed by the researchers, the Heartland Forgiveness Scale, The Scale of Perfectionism for Children and Adolescents, the UCLA Loneliness Scale Short Form and the Self-Compassion Scale. In the analysis of the collected data, the Pearson Correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression analysis were used. As a result of the study, self-compassion was found to positively predict the adolescents’ tendency to forgive themselves others and situations; loneliness was found to negatively predict the adolescents’ tendency to forgive themselves but positively predict their tendency to forgive others; perfectionism was found to be not a significant predictor of the adolescents’ tendency to forgive. The research findings were discussed in light of the relevant literature.
