Isolated brain metastases in long-term complete remission in a case of small cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder

Özet
Primer mesane küçük hücreli karsinomu (KHK) nadir ve agresif bir tümördür. Bu makalede klinik seyri ve tümörün metastaz paterni akciğer KHK ile benzerlik gösteren bir mesane KHK olgusu sunulmuştur. Olguda sistemik kemoterapi ve adjuvan radyoterapi ile tam remisyon elde edilmesine rağmen tanıdan 16 ay sonra izole beyin metastazı tesbit edilmiştir. Bu olgunun klinik seyri göz önünde bulundurularak profilaktik kranial radyoterapinin tedavinin bir parçası olabileceği sonucuna varılmıştır.
Abstract
Primary small cell carcinoma (SCC) of the urinary bladder is a rare and aggressive neoplasm. Herein, a patient with SCC of the bladder is described. The patient's clinical course and the tumor's pattern of metastases were similar to those seen in SCC of the lung. There was a complete remission with systemic chemotherapy and adjuvant radiotherapy. But he was diagnosed with isolated brain metastases 16 months after diagnosis. Considering the clinical course in this case, we concluded that prophylactic brain irradiation may be a component of therapy in patients with SCC of the bladder.
