Abstract
Rectal duplication is an extremely rare abnormality. This pathology manifests as bowel obstruction, rectal hemorrhage, fistula formation, pain or palpable mass and its location is usually retrorectal. We report the case of a four-month old girl who had a mass at the right side of the anus running along the antero-lateral side of the anal canal without communication with the ano-rectum. Complete removal of the mass was performed through a perineal approach. Histological examination revealed that the structure consisted of gastric, ileal and colonic mucosa and squamous epithelium. These findings were consistent with rectal duplication. The postoperative course of the patient was uneventful with normal anal sphincter function. This case is presented due to its rarity and atypical location.
