Abstract

In this study, the diseases causing abortions in sheep during 1993-1997 were investigated microbiologically and serologically. Therefore, 297 sheep fetuses that were sent to our institute were exaınined microbiologically. Brucella spp. were isolated in 100 (33.7%) of these materials while in Salmonella spp. in 2 (0. 7%) and Campylobacter spp. in 4 (1.3%) of them. 4 of the Campylobacter were identified as C.jetus subsp.jetus Furthermore the blood sera of the ı 2199 aborted sheep from 34 provinces were tested by serological tests. All of these sera were tested with regards to Brucellosis and ı909 (ı5.6 %) sera were found to be positive. Likewise, 264 (6.6 %) of the 40ı 7 sera tested for Campylobacteriosis, 88 (1.8 %) of the 4890 sera tested for Chlamydiosis and 117 (1.7 %) of the 6877 sera tested for Salmonellasis were found to have antibodies against the diseases. The cause of the abortion in 64.3 % sera tested microbiologically and in 74.3 % sera tested serologically was not able to be detected.
