Overall Economic Performance of Farms in Burkina Faso: Case of Maize

Özet

The objectve of ths study s to define a conceptual framework for measurng the Global Economc Performance (GEP) of farms n Burkna Faso. After a lterature revew of GEPmeasurement methods and ndcators, we have specfied a composte ndcator for ths purpose. It s called Global Economc Performance Indcator (GEPI). It conssts of one group of postve ndcators and another of negatve ndcators. Each group s the reduced centered average of the ndcators that make t up. GEPI was appled to 262 randomly selected maze growers of Burkna Faso grouped nto 'producton systems', 'farm szes' and 'provnces'. The results show that the large farms, the motorzed producers and those of Tuy are generally the most performantes of ther respectve group. A comparson of the GEPI of the producer categores shows that the large and medum producers are generally the best performers, wth a score of 0.59. The category of motorzed producers ranks thrd wth a score of 0.57. In terms of agroecology, the provnce of Tuy s the last category of globally efficent producers

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, tarım şletmelernn Toplam Ekonomk Performansını (TEP) ölçmek çn kavramsal br çerçeve tanımlamak ve uygulamaktır. TEPölçüm yöntemler ve göstergelernn lteratür taramasından sonra, bu amaç çn bütünleşk br gösterge belrlenmştr. Bu gösterge Toplam Ekonomk Performans Gösterges (TEPG) olarak adlandırılmışır. Bu gösterge br grup poztf ölçüt le br grup olumsuz ölçütün toplulaştırılmasından oluşmaktadır. Her grup, onu oluşturan göstergelern ortalamaları ve standart sapmaları dkkate alınarak hesaplamaya dahl edlmş ve uygulanmıştır. Her br üretc çn TEPG, Burkna Faso'da rastgele seçlmş 262 mısır üretcsnden anket yoluyla elde edlen verler kullnılarak tahmn edlmştr. Sonuçlar, “üretm sstemler”, “büyüklük” ve “l” gruplarına göre karşılaştırmalı olarak sunulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda büyük çftlklern, maknalı üretm yapan üretclern ve Tuy lndek çftçlern genel olarak daha yüksek performans gösterdkler belrlenmştr. Buna ek olarak, büyük üretclern genel olarak 0,59 puanla tüm mısır üretcler gruplarında en y performansı gösterdkler bulunmuştur
