Abstract
Objective We aim to investigate the maternal and fetal effects of non-stress test in musical environment Material and Methods Our study was conducted prospectively through a 1-mounth-period, including 50 women with ongoing uncomplicated live pregnancies between 34-37 weeks of gestational age. Women were randomly divided into 2 groups of 25. In the first group, NST was performed in a musical environment followed by test performed in an environment without music. İn the second group NST was first performed without music followed by test performed with music. After each test, maternal blood pressure, respiratory rate, pulse, Beck Depression Scale, fetal basal heart rate, number of acceleration and number of fetal movements felt by the mother were evaluated. Results In both of the groups, fetal movements felt by the mother increased and maternal respiratory rate increased significantly with NST performed in musical environment. Beck Depression Scale scores, maternal bazal heart rates and fetal heart accelerations were similar. Dıscussıon NST with relaxing music may have a potential to incease reassuring NST results and to reduce unnecessary repeat testing.
