Özet
Kur’an’da detaylarına temas edilmeden anılan İsrâ olayı dışında Hz. Muhammed (S.A.V.)’in fiziken göğe yükseltildiğini gösteren açık bir ifade bulunmamaktadır.
Abstract
ABSTRACT: The Qur’an is clear in its narration of the Night Journey, al-Isra, however, no explicit mention of the physical ascent to the heavens is made. Conversely, according to the hadith narrative, the Prophet made a second extraordinary journey — ascending with his physical body to the heavens on the same night. This part of the tradition show some similarities with the ascension narratives that had a significant place in various pre-Islamic “Middle Eastern” beliefs. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the originality of the Miraj (Ascension) event in the hadith narrative against this pre-Islamic heritage. In other words, the paper will discuss whether or not there has been a process of adaptation. The conclusions reached show that although the event involves unique aspects to the Isra incident, some elements from the pre-Islamic ascension narratives may have been adapted to the narrative in terms of its details of the Prophet’s ascension to the sky with his physical body and the means he used during this ascension. The paper initially attempts to convey how the event took place in the Qur'an, hadiths and various classical sources such as tafsir (exegesis), and books of history. The second part will draw a general picture about the conceptions of ascension in different pre-Islamic religious systems by prioritizing the geography of the “Middle East”. The third part focuses on the Israʼiliyyat traditions, which show the mixing of the pre-Islamic cultural heritage with the Muslim culture, and then attempts to evaluate the authenticity of the episode of Miraj within the Islamic tradition.
