Generalized extreme value distribution for flood discharges

Özet
Türkiye akarsularındaki en uzun süreli taşkın gözlemlerinin çeşitli olasılık dağılım fonksiyonlarına uygunluğu istatistik testlerle kontrol edilmiştir. Genel ekstrem değer (GEV) dağılımının gözlemlere en iyi uyan dağılım olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Bu daha önce yeryüzündeki en uzun taşkın gözlemleri için yapılan bir çalışmanın sonuçları ile de uygunluk halindedir. GEV dağılımının taşkın frekans analizinde universal bir dağılım olarak kabul edilmesi önerilmektedir.
Abstract
The fitting of various probability distribution functions to the longest flood observations in Turkish streams was examined by statistical tests. It was found that the generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution had the best fit. This is in agreement with the results of a previous study where the largest available flood records from all over the world were employed. It is acknowledged that the GEV distribution is the most suitable distribution to be used for flood frequency analysis.
