Abstract
An experimental results of an on going laboratory investigation conducted to evaluate the influence of fly ash, steel and polypropylene fibers content on the workability of fresh concrete was presented using slump and Ve-Be time. The control concrete mixture proportions were 1: 4.7 cement and aggregate in mass basis. Water-binder ratio and the amount of hyperplasticizer was kept constant as 0.35 and 1% of weight of cement respectively. Fly ash replacement ratios were 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% and 45%. Addition of fiber ratios were 0.05%, 0.1% and 0.2% for polypropylene fiber with 19 mm length, and 0.25%, 0.5%, 1.0% and 1:5% for, steel fiber with 35 mm length and 0.55 diameter. The results of laboratory investigation show that the addition of fibers reduced the skimp workability and increased the Ve-Be workability time regardless of fiber type. However, the influence of polypropylene fiber on the workability was found to be less than that of steel fiber. As a results of this laboratory work, it was concluded that fly ash replacement can help to improve the, workability of fresh concrete containing steel and polypropylene fibers together and seperately.
