Abstract

High resolution computed tomograhy of the paranasal sinuses was performed in the Com¬puted Tomography Unit of the Ankara Numune State Hospital on 130 patient with suspected chronic si¬nusitis between May 1994 and October 1994. The frequency for sinusitis was higher in maxillary sinu¬ses and anterior ethmoidal cells. For the anatomical variations septal deviation and bullous middle conc-hae had the first and second highest frequency, respectively. A signifcant relation wasfoound between the osteomeatal unit disease arid the mucosal disesaes of the maxillary and frontal sinuses. We have concluded that the high resolution computed tomography should be the golden standart for the complcated sinusitis patinets in evaluating the etiological basis and the grade of the sinusitis, and in imaging the anatomical variations of the paranasal sinuses before functional endoscopic sinus surgery is performed.
