Abstract

The coronavirus diseases-2019 (COVID-19) infection, which emerged in the People's Republic of China in December 2019 and has an effect all over the world in a short time, is a disease caused by the newly defined member of the coronavirus family known as severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). More than 6 million people in 216 countries worldwide have been affected from this virus. The common findings of COVID-19 are dry cough, fever, sore throat, and shortness of breath. Sudden developing anosmia has been also described recently. Although SARS-CoV-2 is known to be a neurotropic virus; in the field of audiology, the effect of COVID19 disease on hearing and balance is still an area of curiosity that has not been studied yet. This review was written to give the results of the studies that performed the audio vestibular evaluation in COVID-19 patients, to discuss the possible pathophysiological mechanisms of the impairment of audiovestibular system in COVID-19 and to give an idea for the studies to be conducted in this area.
