Abstract

Osteoporotic vertebral fractures are the cause of major morbidity and mortality in geriatric patients and also source of severe pain. Recently percutaneous vertebroplasty technique became popular in order to alleviate the pain. This procedure is a safe and effective minimal invasive surgical technique. The main goal of vertebroplasty is to enhance the strength and stability of the fractured vertebra with control of the pain. The primary surgical indication of the vertebroplasty is painfull osteoporotic vertebral fractures that are refractory to conservative treatment also hindering the ambulation of the patient and therefore effecting the daily activity with resultant disability. Early mobilization can be achieved with vertebroplasty therefore the risks associated with immobilization with analgesic consumption can be reduced and hospital length of stay of the patients can be shortened. In this study we present a patient with acute osteoporotic compression fracture without neurological deficits nor intracanaliculer compression, treated in our clinic with percutaneous vertebroplasty technique.
