Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate arteriovenous fistulae for hemodialysis access. Materials and methods: Arteriovenous fistulae for hemodialysis access assessed in 50 patients with end stage renal disease from October 2003 to June 2004, retrospectively. Results: 68 arteriovenous fistulae were created in 50 patients. The wrist was the most common localization of site for arteriovenous fistula. The short term occlusion rate was 12 %. In 3 to 10 months follow-up period, total patency rates were % 82. Conclusions: The distal region of nondominant arm is always the preferred site for hemodialysis access. A good surgical technique and carefully preservation of hemodialysis access were increased long term patency rates and minimized complications.
