Abstract

The uncanny, which is one of the subjects of psychoanalysis, is a concept that is generally used to describe the negative and tense emotional states that people experience in a safe place. It is the sudden change of mood in a place where the individual feels safe and the place he or she is in turns into an unsafe place. Therefore, for people whose existence is spatial, space has an important role in the formation of the uncanny. However, space, which is actually the spiritual existence of place, makes the place uncanny. This situatiun requires a understanding of the effect of space on the uncanny of place. Therefore, in this article, the works of the artists who benefit from the tension created by the space are examined. These artists, who deal with both internal and social issues, create uncanny situations in their works while achieving striking spaces. In this research, it is aimed to make a reading on the relationship between space and the uncanny in the image, based on the works of the artists.
