Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to develop an "Attitude Scale towards Deciphering in Instrument Training" in order to determine the attitudes of students from the department of music education towards deciphering and to prove the validity and reliability of this scale. Furthermore, the attitudes of students from the Department of Music Education towards deciphering in instrument training were also examined in terms of the variables of gender and grade based on the psychometric findings of the scale. The data of the study were collected from 270 students studying at the Departments of Music Education. According to the findings obtained by the exploratory factor analysis, the scale was observed to have a structure consisting of 4 dimensions. According to the Cronbach's Alpha analyses, the reliability of scale ranges from .83 to 88 in its all sub-dimensions. Finally, the attitudes of students from the department of music education towards deciphering in instrument training differ by gender and grade level
