Abstract

Despite the devastating impact of mass tourism on the environment, ecotourism has emerged as an environmentally friendly form of tourism in natural areas. When ecotourism is realized within the scope of a planning, it is an important opportunity in terms of ensuring sustainable use and development of the local people, especially in areas with sensitive ecosystems such as wetlands. In this study, the potential of ecotourism within the borders of the Uluabat Lake Ramsar area, which is one of the 14 Ramsar areas in our country, was tried to be determined. As a result of the study using literature reviews, field studies and SWOT analysis technique, the areas with high ecotourism potential within the boundaries of the study area and ecotourism activities that could be carried out in these settlements and their close surroundings were revealed. Despite the threats that should arise as a result of ecotourism, suggestions were made to ensure sustainable use.
