Abstract

The study aimed to determine the larval population of the codling moth, which is the important pest in apple orchards with a great economic return for Isparta province, and the rate of infested fruit. For this purpose, the natural population of Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) was used in apple orchards consisting of Golden delicious and Red chief varieties. In order to monitor the larval population, the number of larvae was recorded weekly with observations in randomly selected trees. In addition, in order to determine the percentages of the infested fruit, among all the fruits that fall into the canopy projection area of these trees, the number of the infested fruits was determined and recorded. In the study, for both apple varieties, the larval population of C. pomonella in fruits on the trees was recorded as rising in July and August 2018; as for in 2019, it increased in June, July, August and September. In 2018, the rate of spilled infested fruit in Golden delicious variety was recorded as 65.37%. In census of the same year in Red chief variety, the rate of spilled infested fruit was determined as 61.07%. As regards in 2019, the rate of spilled infested fruit was recorded as 60.19% in Golden delicious variety and as 59.52% in Red chief variety.
