Abstract
In this study, the effect of human capital on economic growth was investigated on the basis of general sectors of the economy such as agriculture, industry and services in Turkey for the period of 1988 - 2015. In order to determine the long run and the short run relationships between economic growth and human capital, the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach developed by Pesaran et al. (2001) and error correction model were employed in the study. The number of graduates from higher education was used as the indicator of human capital. The findings of this study indicate there is a long-run relationship between human capital and general / sectoral economic growth. According to the long-run coefficients, while the sector the most affected by the increase in the number of higher education graduates is services, agriculture sector is the least sensitive to the increase in the number of higher education graduates.
